AE 481/482 Reflection

This Penn State Senior Thesis was a valuable opportunity to showcase and utilize everything we have learned over the last 5 years in our Architectural Engineering program. The initial semester provided time to delve into the existing conditions of the West Side Shady Grove project and analyze the current means and methods of construction. The second semester allowed us to propose new means and methods to find how they might affect the project cost, schedule, and other project characteristics. This provided a valuable opportunity to see first hand how strategies we have learned and studied will actually affect projects in the real world. We were also able to work with real world professionals to work through these problems and strategies, and for that I am very grateful.

CPEP Reflection

The required CPEP paired with the Senior Thesis project also provided an invaluable learning experience. It helped me keep up with my project, allowed me to showcase my hard work, and even taught me a lot about web design.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Ben Carruth. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
